Mirrors and Diamonds. Rashmi Varma’s Spring Summer 2015 collection adapts craft techniques and textiles in a ready to wear collection for the modern nomad.Rashmi Varma Indian Fashion

The Montreal born, Delhi-based designer has a keen eye for clothing that is functional, contemporary, and rooted in handloom crafts.

Rashmi Varma Spring 2015 is all about delicate mirror work and lattice-mesh embroideries on handwoven utilitarian fabrics. The womenswear collection utilizes a hand-dyed indigo process, and innovative and ancient textiles, including 100% hand spun and hand loomed Khadi. The process involves zero mechanization and was created as a means to self-reliance. She also uses Kala cotton from an organic cotton plant that can grow in the most arid conditions. The textile is currently being revived in the Kacchh, Gujarat area with a focus on providing additional income and livelihood to the craft industry.

Editor’s Picks: I’m dreaming of three pieces: the Bihar sari dress in indigo, the shisha Khadi denim trousers with mirror work, and the shisha dress in tumeric yellow.
